After a run, the s.o. and I walked two blocks from his house, and for $5 caught a bus & trolley, and one hour later, we were at the San Ysidro border. For $52US a piece, we did the following and each walked home with a 750-mL bottle of good tequila.
I was actually surprised at the labyrinthian complexity of the pedestrian bridges and general clusterfuck of roads that converged at the San Ysidro. While trying not to appear like tourists walking around with a map of the city in our hands, we did get pretty confused a few times throughout the day and *gasp* had to ask random people for directions! In Spanish! And folks were nice and helpful! And hardly anyone spoke English and it was OK! The goal was to get to the 6th Annual Street Opera Festival on the north side of the Tijuana River from "downtown" and maybe check out the Centro Cultural Tijuna (la bola).

I forgot to eat lunch so I made the s.o. help me find a sit-down restaurant on the way over to the street fair. We came across La Casa del Mole on Aquiles Serdan and I got some enchilades de mole and the s.o. accidentally ordered a giant hock of meat bigger than his head succulently covered in mole. Our fix prixe meal came with a soup and a postre, uno tamal dulce. I added pechuga and pierna to my vast Spanish vocabulary of Mexican food stuffs.
